Q2

Hey all,

If you have been anywhere around me during the past few months, you have probably heard me rave about Q2, the new music internet radio station from WQXR. It is an awesome resource for just listening to some great music not normally heard on the radio and also to get exposed to new composers and such. For me it is a much welcome breath of fresh air from what is normally on the radio. Enjoy!

Instructions for posting

Just a heads up on how to post...  after you log in, click on "New Post" in the upper right hand corner of the screen.  You'll be able to type your post and even preview from the subsequent screen.

In the bottom right hand corner of the posting screen, there's a box that says "Labels".  These help keep the blog organized; these are "tags" that give some keywords for your post.  For example, if you are writing a post about a concert you recently attended featuring a Bartok String Quartet, you might have the labels "Bartok", "Concerts" and "String Quartet".  You can click on a label from the blog and get all posts that have that label on one screen.  That way, if a few months down the road, you are thinking about a particular topic, you can click that label and get all posts that have that label. 

Also:  all posts should include your "handle" in the Label box; notice that mine all have the label "DrS".  This is so I can look over your entire body work with a single click.

International Music Score Library Project is the web's most comprehensive database of public domain scores available for free download as PDFs.  This is an incredibly useful resource.

Eastman School of Music's Career Development Office Resources contains a number of PDF downloads on issues of a practical nature-- from writing a music resume, to applying to graduate school, to a whole host of career-oriented topics.

ASCAP and BMI are both performance licensing organizations that collect royalties on behalf of composers and publishers.

American Composer's Forum and The Composer's Site both list opportunities for composers; competitions, calls for scores, job opportunities, etc.  Check these out regularly!

Welcome, new and returning students!

This is a new adventure for the coming semester; this experiment should be an interesting addition to our work in Studio Class and lessons.  Part of your assignment load for Studio Class will be to participate in a number of ways in the Blog Project, though it is my hope that we will all utilize this virtual space for on-going discussion, the dissemination of information, and thoughtful commentary above and beyond required work.
