Flute Candy

This is a fun piece by composer Ian Clarke called Zoom Tube.  It shows off a lot of the interesting extended flute techniques you can use, like singing while playing, air sounds, tongue clicks, etc.  Flutists are pretty versatile!

  1. I have had the opportunity to see this piece live a couple of times, and it makes a really good concert closer/encore piece. However, what this piece is best at is incorporating a wide variety of extended techniques, while maintaining a very audience friendly level of sophistication, rather than being a distancing introspective study of the techniques.

On a related note, there is a great chance you have seen Greg Patillo, and his beatboxing on flute, but in case you HAVEN'T, it is here.
